I've gone to DragonCon for years and can honestly say it is an incredible experience every year. There is something for everyone there ( I have a picture of Darth Elvis!) and there is always a party somewhere. The downsides: Crowds. Every where. Long lines (having to queue up for up to 2 hours to get into one of the big guest panels - there are no reserved seats at DC, but there are dozens of smaller panels that don't require queuing). It's held at the height of Atlanta's hot, humid summer - there will be sweating.At last count panels, demonstrations, art galleries, merchandise, readings, gaming rooms, etc are spread out over 5 hotels - be prepared to walk.

But it is enormous fun. When you get tired you can sit in one of the hotel lobbies just people watching (and maybe getting your picture taken with Chewbacca) for hours or just plop down on the floor and listen to the latest filk band. And you never know who you're going to share an elevator with. My brother-in-law spent quality time in a broken elevator with Robert Picardo; they discussed music. ;)

Yeah, I've been seriously thinking about Dragon Con as I don't really care for Creation.

From everything I've read, the Creation cons sound way to regimented (and over priced) for me. If you decide to go with DC, buy your ticket early (the price increases the closer you get to convention time) and I know people who have already made their hotel reservations for next year. If you want to stay in one of the hotels which are actually hosting the con, the rooms go fast.

If I go I'll probably buy the ticket soon-ish and then reserve the hotel really soon. How soon can you buy the tickets? I was really thinking of Dragon Con cause the tickets are cheap and I can get plane tickets cheap.

I usually get mine around January/February. I keep checking the website (dragoncon.org) and order them as soon as I see they are available. The price usually starts increasing around May. The one thing you want to avoid at all costs is buying your ticket "at the door". The lines are legendary. Seriously, you can spend half the day in it if you show up Saturday morning and aren't there at least a couple hours before it opens. I've never been foolish enough to do this, but I've spoken with those who have.

Yeah, that's crazy to wait until you get to the door. Even at the creation events I've been to we wait hours just waiting to pick our tickets up even if we've bought them already.

This past weekend was my first DragonCon and I LOVED it. I definitely vote for that one :) I want to do an SPN con, but I am against Creation Entertainment. However, based on something I learned this weekend, I may not have to endure Creation to see certain SPN guests, so I'm holding onto the hope!

Yeah, I really despise Creation as well. I just went to a Gabit event and very impressed with them, but that all the money went for Charity so it was all good ;)

That's good! May I ask which event they are going to?

It hasn't been stated if they're signing with another con organization or if they're just going to sign with whoever fits their schedule, but they have officially terminated their contract with CreationCon, so no more of those events. I keep hoping they will come to DragonCon next year, as they were working on getting them there this year.

That would be cool if they went to Dragon Con. Yeah, I really don't think the stars like Creation very much either. I heard Jason will never do another Creation even either.

I doubt Jason will do another DragonCon for a while either after this year's "fun times." I adore him, but Jason and lots of alcohol do not equal good ideas ;)

It always takes place in Vancouver and its quite expensive around $580 for a gold ticket which includes all autographs for free and you also get free tour of the sgu set. You have to pay extra for photo ops and it is very very rushed. The handlers don't let you talk much and one year they didn't even let the stars personalize autographs.

Dragon Con is supposed to be very epic! I don't think they will do TSE next year, they tend to do their conventions every couple of years.

Dragon Con is in Atlanta and I've never been to the U.S and the tickets are only $70 each, Let me know if you plan on going and we can share a room! :D

I haven't been to any of them, but I think you'll have a blast wherever you go. I do feel like the fangirl hijinks are just as important/fun (if not more so) than the guests. So... maybe go to the one where you know the most people? IDK, that is just a suggestion. :)

I have three weeks vacation and I like to spend at least one of them at convention just cause they are hugely addicting. and fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I have my way I might go to Dragon Con in Atlanta and it would be epic as I've never been out of the country. Plus its like the same price for me to fly to Vancouver and its like $100 for a ticket compared to $600 at a creation event! Oh, and it has like stars from Star Trek, Stargate, Firefly, Eureka, etc, etc. not just one fandom all of them.

Dragon*Con is EPIC. I live about 3 1/2 hours from Atlanta, so I go every year. Let me know if you're gonna come! :)

DRAGON CON!!! It's so much cheaper!!! And so much more awesome!! I'm not sure if I'm going next year because of the wedding, but Zack did make a comment the other night about going with me. The only big price is the hotel, but pile a bunch of people in and it's not too bad ;)

Yeah, I think if I do a con next year it might be dragon con :) It is a lot cheaper and for some weird reason its almost cheaper to fly there than vancouver.

We will see. I think one of the girls that works in my office might be retiring next year and I'm not sure when that will happen so I might be busy training a new girl and probably getting her job, so we'll see.
