I feel all ranty
So some good stuff before the ranty stuff. I'm doing a rewatch of Supernatural, which is total love! You know its a good show when every single episode just gets better and better (that's called awesome writing and I love Kripke for it). It doesn't hurt that I get to see awesome actors on my tv like Ryan Robbins and Agam Darshi ( who I never caught before).

Oh and Sanctuary is always love! that last episode was amazing! I'm very happy that it got a 20 episode season! These two shows are basically the only ones that I have to watch live, as in I have to be home when these shows are airing.

Work Crap

Sometimes I hate working for the government, as in I wish they didn't pay me so much money, cause I'd move so fast if they weren't paying me so well. So basically I have a boss who's a total douche bag (I know not an uncommon thing), a fellow employee who sits on the computer doing nothing and is mean to her customers but according the boss is the best thing ever. (probably cause they both sit on the computer all day surfing the internet, I like to walk into my bosses office all the time and see how fast he can minimize all his windows.)

So this other girl I work for is retiring which probably means I get her job when she leaves (which means a 3.00/hr. raise. Great I will never leave) & according to my boss I could probably do her job (which is only part time) and all of my jobs. UMMMM WTF ARE YOU SMOKING?? I do accounts payable/accounts receivable & run a rent subsidy program. He thinks taking the rent subsidy program away from me and hiring someone to help the incompetent person will be an awesome idea. Ummmmm, hello that rent subsidy is a small portion of my job. Maybe if you took away the Accounts Payable job too. Then he asks me, If I could sell my house and move to our other office where the incompetent person works? umm no, pretty sure you can't make me move out of my house, and If I move it won't be to another crappy town, I would move to the city away from you. UGHHHH!

Fandom Wank (a.k.a Stargate)

O.K. first off this is my opinion. I still love everyone for there differences. I love you if have never watched Stargate, I love you if you love Stargate Universe with a passion of a million burning suns, I love you if you despise Universe too , I love all of you.

Seriously though. wow, Brad Wright is a little arrogant much? Telling the world that Atlantis fans are the reason for the new show's tanking ratings? Wow, I never knew a small percentage of a fanbase could do so much damage. Who would have thunk it?

First off, just because a fan likes a particular show doesn't mean they will like all incarnations of it. Star Trek for example. I love Star Trek Voyager but it doesn't mean I love every Star Trek show, for example I kind of hate Star Trek Deep Space Nine, and I have mixed feeling about Enterprise, they kind of told the same stories over and over again and the only redeeming quality to me was the characters especially Tpol/Trip :D

For me personally I loved Atlantis, I liked SG-1 and I'm neutral about Universe. Well I guess not neutral I gave it a good season to see what I thought about it and I don't know, I tried to watch the new season and I don't know it didn't keep my interest, and it kind of bored me and I had to turn the tv off. I liked the campy kind of humor that Atlantis had and SG-1 to a degree, its why I like Sanctuary and Eureka. I need a lot of humor with my scifi. I can't stand so much depressing stuff on my tv when my life is kind of filled with it, its why I never really got into Battlestar Galactica.

I guess my point was, those comments by BW are kind of hurtful & mean.(just to be mean I think) Most of anyone I've talked to has tried to watch the new show and have tried to give it a shot but just couldn't get into it. I don't really think that's the fans fault, what do you think. That sounds like a writting issue.

By all means though, watch the show live if you like/love it.

I'm going back to happier times. I fell in love with an Atlantis fic that I can't put down :)  Sorry for the longness.

I wonder what he'd say about me? Gave Atlantis a try and found that I didn't like it and only watched season four for Carter. Watched the first episode of SGU (mainly for the Carter/O'Neill interaction) and decided I like it even less than Atlantis. He'd probably say I want the entire franchise to flop because SG1 is no more.

I'm not going to watch a show just because it's part of a franchise I might love. Honestly if SGU was the first series I happened upon I might not have even given SGA or SG1 a chance. I think the reason they're seeing a drop in numbers IS because of Atlantis fans but not in the way he means. They probably did give the show a fair shot because it's part of the franchise and decided they just don't like it and stopped watching which dropped the audience numbers.
coffee_nebulacoffee_nebula on November 8th, 2010 05:07 am (UTC)
Look at that, I even used the one Atlantis icon I have.
jennifer jensen: SGA: Sam uniforjenniferjensen on November 8th, 2010 06:44 am (UTC)
LOL, probably. This is exactly my point. just because you liked one show in a franchise doesn't mean you have to like or watch every other show.

Its the only logical reasoning I can think of too. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that drop in ratings are from people not liking the show they are watching. I mean it lost a good million viewers. First off, there are not that many online fans, it has to be other people not liking it too.

First off GIANT HUGS for the boss stuff. Don't you love when they do crazy things like that? :)

Fandom Wank:

Most of anyone I've talked to has tried to watch the new show and have tried to give it a shot but just couldn't get into it.

It really reminds me of my take on SG:U. I'd be very curious to see what Brad had to say about MY reason for not watching...

See I *tried* to watch (promised I'd give the show the entire first season to 'sell' me) I made it 17 episodes and HAD to quit. Episode 17 was that 'brain ticks' episode "Pain" I think was the title. The entire opening sequence sent me into a massive panic attack and left me crying on the side of the road outside where I was supposed to be watching with friends. I was *literally* walking distance of Bridge at the time but other than not watching (and being very precise on WHY I'm not watching - its not the actors, its the content. If I can't *trust* Stargate of all things then what CAN I trust?) I have been very supportive of the show's cast and crew (I would love to see them all do well because I feel there has been some very negative people in fandom who direct their anger in the wrong direction.)
jennifer jensen: SG: Sam backjenniferjensen on November 8th, 2010 06:38 am (UTC)
for sure. I've met some of the actors and I really love David Blue as an example and yeah its not the actors fault.

Yeah, I would never direct anger at the cast & crew cause its not there fault. If anything direct anger at TPTB.

*hugs* that must have difficult for you to watch :( yes, I have issues with some of the content as well.

Yeah, I would never direct anger at the cast & crew cause its not there fault. If anything direct anger at TPTB.

I wouldn't either and I was genuinely *shocked* when I heard that there were people in fandom who were directing their anger at the actors. That is just crazy.

*hugs* that must have difficult for you to watch :( yes, I have issues with some of the content as well.

I honestly haven't even been able to watch the episode on mute w/ closed captioning. BUT when I talk about not watching the show I am very open with the fact that I was in a bad relationship and that particular scene made me have a flashback to said relationship.
B.Cellisbell1848 on November 8th, 2010 07:50 am (UTC)
I seem to recall Brad having twatish moments during SG1 as well. Although I never really gave the Stargate writers/creators/directors etc. a lot of notice, never really paid much attention to them (I think because years of TXF writers love/hate took it out of me). So I could just be making that up...

I haven't watched SG:U yet. Stargate SG-1 will always be my first love. Atlantis I liked, but never LOVED and I still haven't gotten around to watching the season that Carter turns up in (bad SG1 fan! Bad!). I'll get to SG:U in time, but I don't expect to fall head-over-heels.
jennifer jensen: SGA: Elizabeth crop colorfuljenniferjensen on November 9th, 2010 12:56 am (UTC)
Yeah, I guess I really wasn't around in fandom during his SG-1 days nor was I around for x files.

Season 4 of Atlantis is good, mostly(the one with Carter). I really liked Season 1-3 and most of season 4 and 5, although after 3 they started killing off main characters left and right.
Firework Rocket: sga: sam; ponytailbook232 on November 8th, 2010 08:37 am (UTC)
I'm so happy we'll get so many episodes of Sanctuary this season! I'm really loving season 3 so far.

As for the Stargate stuff, I... don't really get what he's on about, to be honest. How are SGA fans responsible for the decreasing ratings? I mean, ratings are dropping because not enough people are watching, and those aren't just SGA fans, no? Or does he think SGA fans post mean things about SGU on the Interwebs or what? So weird. I'm actually pretty sure most Stargate fans gave SGU at least a try, they are probably even more willing to give it a try than non-Stargate fans. So... yeah. Whatever, Brad.
jennifer jensen: SGA: Sam in the hallsjenniferjensen on November 9th, 2010 01:44 am (UTC)
Me too, I'm really happy with Season 3 & it makes me so happy that we get 20 episodes.

Exactly, we are even more willing to give the show a chance, and yeah its not just SGA fans that are turning off the tv.
Phoebe: Stargate - Paradise Lostphoebe290455 on November 8th, 2010 10:40 am (UTC)
I gave SG:U a try, I really did. But when, from the very first episode even, so many things make you cringe inside or just annoy you to no end, you don't have to continue watching, do you?
I don't like the characters, especially not the female ones. I can't relate to A SINGLE character. But that wouldn't even be the worst, since they can develop. Thing is, for me they didn't.
The camera work is horrible! No, blocking half the screen with an unidentifiable beam is not artisticly valuable, that's just crap.

All in all, it not only bored me to no end, but it also really made me angry. And that#s why I stopped watching. And BW is a douchebag. He used to be nice when he was younger, apparently. But things got to his head. It's sad, really.
jennifer jensen: SGA: Sam uniforjenniferjensen on November 9th, 2010 01:48 am (UTC)
Yeah, exactly. I gave it a shot & yeah why watch a show if you don't like it.

OMG your header!!! *diez*
Um.... I had thinky thoughts to say about BW and how at first he says the "Angry Atlantis" fans were a small portion of the viewership and wouldn't matter and now the "Angry Atlantis" fans are to blame for all the woes in the world --- WTF Brad? Waffle much?
But then said thinky thoughts got lost because OMG your header!!! *diez*

I actually like SGU quite a bit, but I also liked BSG. So it really is a matter of taste, IMO. The ensemble cast and long character arcs made it difficult for people to connect. I like it for the story telling and only now am I getting to feel comfortable with some of the characters.

OMG your header!!!! I think I'll just stare at it all day and not get any work done, "K? ;)
jennifer jensen: SPN: impalajenniferjensen on November 9th, 2010 01:57 am (UTC)
Hee, Jensen is very distracting. Yeah, he also said that if people didn't like his show it was because they were too stupid to understand it. Way to be classy BW.

If I could, I would stare at Jensen all day long!

I agree with all you said here about the BW and his douchy comments on SGA fans. come on.

look, Brad, i am trying so hard to like SGU. I am still watching it. WAITING for the characters to engage me, to even like each other. Stargate for me has always been 'Team' moments and humor. I don't see that.

I can't wait for McKay to show up. by this point, that's all that keeps me going.
jennifer jensen: SGA: Rodney McKayjenniferjensen on November 9th, 2010 01:59 am (UTC)
Yeah, you have to understand your audience & everybody who loved Stargate loved the team moments and the humor.

Yeah, antagonizing your audience isn't going to get you higher ratings.

Yes exactly, I love the humor too and that's exactly why I love Sanctuary & Eureka.

Thanks! Yeah, hopefully.

Sucks about your work situation! I have a colleague who's exactly the same (basically doing nothing all day, although she doesn't surf on the internet all day). Grrr.

And wow, Brad Wright. Way to go... blame the fans. I totally agree with everything you said. I loved SG 1 and I loved Atlantis, even though I didn't really enjoy Seasons 3 and 5 all that much. I like SGU, I thought the second half of season 1 was actually pretty awesome. But honestly I don't have to watch every show that has "Stargate" in it, just BECAUSE. I check it out, I like it or I don't. I feel the same way as you about Star Trek btw. LOVED Voyager to pieces, liked DS9 but couldn't get into Enterprise at all.

So yeah. That's just a stupid and pretty mean thing to say. I doubt it'll make people watch SGU now...
jennifer jensen: SPN: HUG CASTIELjenniferjensen on November 9th, 2010 02:06 am (UTC)
Yeah, it doesn't help when her boss is exactly the same way.

Yeah, exactly just because you watch one show in a franchise doesn't mean you have to watch all of them.

Yes, I loved Voyager so so much! Its the only Star Trek series that I've watched that I had to immediately get all the DVDS.

I'm the kind of person who usually sticks with something, even when I shouldn't. (like a job I hated and stayed there until they actually went bankrupt and had to kick me out) I do still keep watching SGU, waiting for it to get better, and there have been a few better episodes this season and a little more character development - but probably too little, too late. Like, in last week's episode, I was wishing Colonel Young would just die after that dialogue with Johansen - I wished she'd just pull out her gun and shoot him.

I do love the franchise, first SG-1 then Atlantis. But SGU is not really cutting it - and I shouldn't really just stick with it out of deference for the franchise, and maybe I wouldn't if there was more sci fi on! They should just move on and create something better. Like you say, the fan base likes some comedy with their sci-fi.

I hope your job woes get better! I loved the recent episode of Sanctuary too!
jennifer jensen: SG: Sam Carter Pinkjenniferjensen on November 11th, 2010 05:41 am (UTC)
I know right? my sister is the total opposite of me, she always has new jobs or moving but the shortest job I've had was 3 years & that was when I was in high school.

Yeah, I watched it for over a year, and not cause I loved it or anything. That's probably not a good reason to watch a show. I was hoping it would get better, maybe if there was more plot development. There were a few okay shows but nothing spectacular.

For sure, we need more scifi.

If you like zombies check out the Walking Dead, a new series for AMC. It's really good. For our sci fi, I just keep crossing my fingers for more. I want to go see the new movie Skyline - don't know if it's any good or not, but I'm in love with Eric Balfour.
